"Excellent service, lowers my energy bill, and supports clean energy! My experience has been great. Easy to set it up (via their website). I did a ton of research on this before I signed up, and I personally recommend it." Michael Rosenblum - Parent of a MWS student
"We have an older home with a slate roof in a heavily shaded neighborhood—all things that would make solar panels on our house less than ideal. A program like Neighborhood Sun addresses all those issues and more, providing clean energy at lower cost with absolutely zero homeowner headaches." Alissa Burkholder Murphy and Todd Murphy - Parents of a MWS student
"I have found Neighborhood Sun to be an easy way to get my electricity at a lower cost and to support the move toward more alternative energy vs fossil fuels." Ned T.

What is community solar? Think of it like a "community garden"

Community solar works much like a community garden: just like you can get a share of land for your garden, you can get a share of a solar farm which will deliver virtual credits to your electric utility bill.  Homeowners and apartment renters subscribe to a local solar farm which delivers renewable energy to the grid. Subscribers save 10-20% on their electricity costs annually.

That means NO solar panels on your roof or property, NO cost to join or cancel, and NO change in your utility company.

1

Step 1

Based off of you average electricity usage, we'll reserve a share of the solar energy produced by the solar farm.

2

Step 2

Your share's solar energy is delivered to the local utility grid you receive virtual credits on your electric bill through your normal utility provider.

3

Step 3

The solar energy generated by your share appears as solar credits on your electricity bill. You then pay for the credits with a discount.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the catch?

No catch! These are state-regulated programs and our mission is to make the benefits of solar power available to everyone.  There are no fees to join, no fees to cancel with notice given, no change in how you get your electricity, and no contract or rate surprises—if you don’t like the service, you can cancel at any time.

How does it save me money?

Your share of the solar farm earns you energy credits when it generates power. You’ll pay us (Neighborhood Sun) for the credits minus the discount. For example, if your average monthly bill is $100 a month and your discount is 10%, your estimated annual savings is $100.

Am I eligible for community solar?

Yes! As long as there is a solar farm in your electric utility territory, and you receive a utility bill in your name, you can enroll!

How do I know if I'm an income-qualified subscriber?

Each state has different income qualifications, and each community solar farm may offer different subscription plans and discounts. To see if you qualify for greater discounts, you can view the income-guidelines for each state here.

How does this work if it doesn't cost anything extra?

Renewable energy is much cheaper than fracking for fossil fuels.

You pay Neighborhood sun for the credits applied to your bill at the savings your local solar farm offers. This payment is made about one to two months after you have received your solar energy credits, so you are always ahead of the game and you only pay for what you have already received.
